Eyes of Hate
All Around Us (self-released)

By: Mike SOS

NYC's Eyes of Hate 15-track collection blends old school punk rock with the sounds of old school hardcore, complete with properly placed breakdowns, the much-needed (and very believable) fuck you attitude, and sneering vocals oozing with scorn and damnation. If you didn't know better, you'd think that after hearing tracks like the desperate "Down and Out" or the supercharged "Competition" that legendary NYHC clan Gorilla Biscuits had reformed, or MTV have dropped punk rock out of heavy rotation, as Eyes of Hate go against the grain of what's normally associated with this style of music. Even though the singer sounds like Steve Souza from Exodus, Eyes of Hate's Murphy's Law meets Sick of It All brand of hardcore pays homage to the forefathers without becoming a retread. If you're looking for the spirit of '77 mixed with the NYHC scene of '87, Eyes of Hate does both admirably.
