Matchbox 20
Yourself Or Someone Like You (Atlantic)

By: Caitlin Richling

The first thing I would like to say about this album is that it has been a long time since I have heard an album so consistently high quality. "Yourself Or Someone Like You", Matchbox 20's debut album, is truly a triumph. Although they have recieved tons of hate mail about the controversial "Push", it made it to the top 10 and MTV's Top 10 Breakdown, and their first radio track "Real World", was charted Top Five.

Singer/songwriter Rob Thomas insists that "Push" is not about physical abuse. He says it's a song about "how I was manipulated and how I handled it." Whatever the song ris really about or how it is interpreted, it is a nice tune and Thomas does a nice job with it. In fact, the songs on the album fit Rob Thomas' overwhelmingly powerful voice perfectly. His delivery is amazing.

"Push" and "Long Day" are not the only tracks on the album worth mentioning. The songs "Real World", "3 A.M.", "Girl Like That", "Damn", "Kody" and "Hang" are also beautiful.

Matchbox 20 teamed up with producer Matt Serelic (Collective Soul) to do this album. His production was "impeccable".

All and all this is a very sophisticated album for a young band. It leaves fans hoping for a new album very soon!
