Neglected Sheep
Ghostman On Third (Livestock Music)

By: Jeb Branin

This album is somewhat of a departure from the previous NEGLECTED SHEEP disc "Geno Died". The band have polished their sound quite a bit. Whereas previously they relied heavily on bluesy (almost southern) rock 'n roll this time they have a more distinct pop feel. To these ears the tunes seems more direct with better defined hooks and snappier verse/chorus/verse structure. Quite a bit of this may simply be due to the fact there is a new vocalist in the band whose voice is smoother and gentler. Although I miss the thicker blues feel of "Geno Died" the band maintain enough of that feel to appease me and any time a band can unleash an album that is the pure rock 'n roll gem that this is you are going to find me smiling. For my money the CD gains momentum as it plays. The latter songs being more earthy and gritty and less radio worthy. "Ghostman On Third" is more a side step than a step foreward for NEGLECTED SHEEP. But when you are beginning with such a strong stance, who cares? Besides you can't really improve "A" work that much in the first place.
