J.C. Deathbed Recollections (Kiss Chase Records) By: Alex Steininger
![](/images/sep.gif)
A darker, image-oriented pop album, J.C.'s Deathbed Recollections uses the mood of the acoustic piano to engage you, occasionally breaking out the electronic piano to make things a bit more upbeat. The album, despite having a dark lining, manages to bring in sunny pop elements. From horns to sparse percussion, and various instruments flushing songs out, Deathbed Recollections gives you a taste of each side of the spectrum. The lyrics bring you along on a voyage, one you're happy to take, as J.C.'s full voice fills your head with his stories, while the music pushes away any apprehensions you may have. A strong, daunting pop album that will have indie rockers in tears and fans of mature songwriting smiling. I'll give it an A-.
