VARIOUS ARTISTS Electro-cution (Arts Industria) By: DJ Azrael
When I first was given this cd to review I thought: "Great another compilation with perhaps two decent songs and tons of filler." Boy!! was I ever surprised by this little gem in darkwave/synthstasia. Where to start? The packaging is great in that it includes contact info for all of the bands (most of which I've never heard of). The frantic pacing of the second track, "Emotionless" by the band Terminal is mind-blowingly professional with gritty/distorted vocals that hopefully will continue on other songs by them. Track #3, "SuperHuman Machines" by Manhole Vortex reminds me of a very early Tear Garden tempered song, perhaps "Ophelia" or "Room with a View". The prize for best band name must go to the marvels at track #4, "Forgive Me (vox)" by Crying Room, which provides synthpop as good as any of the better Metropolis bands, i.e. Xorcist, Diary of Dreams. Other tracks worth mentioning include "Quatrain" by Black Dahlia as well as "Gala" by Daed2, which sounds like a slower Gira -inspired swans song. Track # 15, "March" is another stellar gem from the one-man-band Bytet. If Bytet intesity live is even half as great as his recordings, then this band would be a show NOT to MISS. Pounce Intl. also make a rare appearence on this compilation with "Singe". Now all we need is for Arts Industria to sign and start releasing some full-length albums from these artists.
