Truly She Is None Other (Damaged Goods)

 On her eleventh solo album, former Thee Headcoatee vocalist Holly Golightly, who recently appeared on the new White Stripes record as a guest vocalist, mixes pre-war blues, garage, and pop into an indie rock soon-to-be classic. Cooking up songs from the bouncy "She Said", a song that would fit in perfectly on A.M. radio in the 60s, sounding like a girl-group doing poppy garage rock. Through the down-home folk of "Sent", or the blues-y opener, "Walk A Mile", Holly Golightly bounces around, roaming carefree in various genres, and always coming out on top. Never is there a strained note, a forced mix, or an uncomfortable pairing. It all fits nicely together, so nicely indeed that half the time you'd think Golightly might have been the first to come up with the equation. And, though she isn't, she makes it sound that good. I'll give it an A-.
