Johnny Jones
Blues Is In The House (Northern Blues Records)

By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV

Take the horns of a soul band and have them back guitar and vocals that pay a close resemblance to B.B.King and you got the grooving blues of Johnny Jones. The fun twist of "Girlfriend Blues," is a great song that preaches the sweet humor of humility and showcases a great guitar intermixed with a wonderfully tight ensemble of players. The songs on this CD have a great groove to them with some full bodied bass lines from Jeff Davis that provide such firm foundation that I couldn't imagine these songs existing without them. Man, this is just a great album, with the heavenly dance rhythm of "I'll Be The Judge of That," and "Stack In the Back" which I'd have to say rates as the second best song about the love of "junk in the trunk" right behind Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back," and just ahead of Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls." The energy of this album almost throws sparks, and if it doesn't make you shake your caboose and shuffle your feet, see a doctor cause you might be dead. Rating: A
