Electric Wizard Let Us Prey (The Music Cartel) By: Jeb Branin
I wondered how ELECTRIC WIZARD was going to follow up a masterpiece like "Dopethrone." Were they going to decide they had delved as far into the depths of sludge/doom hell as they could possibly go and so pull back and try for something more upbeat or were they going to actually try and probe deeper into the seething underbelly of the beast? I was certainly hoping for the latter and with "Let Us Prey" E.W. didn't disappoint. This album takes a nosedive and heads for depths uncharted. Everything from the riffs to the vocals to the rhythms are so coated in tar, grit and distortion as to make you check your speakers to see if they've been blown. This is the music your mother (and preacher) warned you about!
