Hank Locklin
Generations In Song (Slewfoot Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Country legend Hank Locklin, whose career has now spanned over five decades, has proven that, like wine, he only gets better with age. Along with a cast of country's most well-renowned stars (Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Jett Williams, and others), Locklin's Generation In Song isn't a bid to reclaim past glories. Nor is it a desperate plea to feel young. Locklin's love of music is the only inspiration here. The result is a true, blue-collar country record that puts to shame the modern day Nashville pop pretenders, and restores country music, at least in part, back to its glory days -- when Locklin first made a name for himself. Any fan of real country music will salivate at this, and fans of watered down imitators will still seek this out for its roots are the roots of country music, and nobody knows that better than Locklin. In creating this record, Locklin has proven that he still has it and has ripped down age barriers and shown that music knows no age. I'll give it a B.
